It is definitely safe to say, that season one of Bosch: Legacy has been nothing short of a masterclass in character development. Because the first four episodes of this continuation series, have explored these characters in a dynamic and powerful manner, wherein we’ve come to learn what they expect from this next chapter in their lives and how they’ve grown after the events of Bosch, and that really has allowed for the audience to settle back into this world and enjoy new angles to characters that were already fleshed out in an incredible manner to begin with. But while it has been supremely delightful to see them continue to grow before our eyes through new challenges and opportunities, it was only a matter of time before that was shelved to handle the bevy of plot threads that have been hanging about this season. Because we are of course here, to watch those plot threads move forward and/or be resolved and it just so happens, that the next episode in this fantastic series served as the moment to start that process. For ‘Plan B’ is a tale that was mostly devoid of character study and instead focused heavily on advancing the two major plot points that have been introduced this season. Specifically, the search for an heir for Whitney Vance and the quest to bring Carl Rogers down and well… the first of those plotlines is of note. Because its seeming resolution allowed for the other one to move forward. Because despite coming face to face with Mister Lewis, whom Dominick helped in a time of need back when they were in the Navy, to learn more about Dominick’s life and possible child… the case quickly came to a screeching halt. Primarily because, Whitney Vance finally passed into the great beyond. Which immediately brought forth a phone call that Bosch’s services were no longer of need and well, with little information on that potential child available and with the work drying up… Harry turned his attention to Carl Rogers and figured out a plan to potentially put him in a corner and bring him down. One which involved, sabotaging his illegal oil plans. Because that was his only hope to pay back the Russians, and if that was removed, he’d have no choice but to cooperate with Honey and give her exactly what she wanted. Which was of course… to see him behind bars. But alas, in order to pull off this ambitious plan, Harry was going to have to do something quite risky. In that, he would need to get close enough to one of Rogers’ henchmen to copy his key fob. Which the team learned was the trigger to the explosive devices on the pipe junction, and the team also learned those explosives would be used to cover Carl’s tracks. But if by chance, those bombs went off early, then Carl would be in trouble and well… after some intense moments and brushes with failure, Bosch went bold and got the whole plan to work and quite literally blew up any chance Carl Rogers had of saving his own hide. Which in turn allowed for Honey to lay the hammer down during a discussion of terms for the civil suit and well, just like that… Rogers folded and gave her everything she wanted and well… while it is wonderful that Rogers is finally getting his comeuppance, this resolution did come as quite the surprise. For season one of this series is slated for ten episodes, and this is episode five and we are already seeing a major plot thread be resolved. Which leaves one to wonder… exactly what awaits us down the line with Rogers likely heading to jail. Does this mean new revelations will come forth regarding the Vance case? Or is something bigger about to drop into Harry’s lap or anyone else in his inner circle? Which means, that despite resolving a big and important plotline here, the show continues to find new ways to compel us to continue the journey. To see what does indeed await Harry and his friends and family down the line and well, that also means this show deserves a round of applause. For doing something this bold and this brave with the story, since crime dramas tend to save resolution for the big case until the end of the season. But this just goes to show, that Bosch: Legacy is unlike any other crime drama out there, and that it is going to find new ways to wow us as season one continues along. Until next time.
