On Saturday November 16th, the Colorado Symphony put on a fantastic show. Dubbed, SymphCon; they played music from nothing but nerdy and geeky things. Starting with the classic Star Wars theme and ending with Superman, the night was one to remember. Personally, I am a total classical music geek. I've loved symphonies since I was a kid, yep, was born weird. So, when I was told we were going, I squeed, not squeaked, squeed. The night began with a train ride and also ended with a train ride. The middle, however, was my favorite. As the concert began I melted. I've heard my fair share of classical music before, but I've never heard a symphony play like this before. There is something to be said about hearing a symphony in person. Something to be said about hearing a symphony play all the coolest, nerdiest, songs ever. I'm not going to lie, I may have been moved to tears just a few times. I also may have squeed really loud when they played Batman: the Animated Series opening theme. I am sure the people around me heard (Scotty and Mattie may have laughed at me), but I grew up on that show. That was my first superhero cartoon. And, as Mattie can tell you, I am a huge Batman nerd. There's a lot of Batman in my room… It wasn't just Batman, however. They played the Doctor Who theme, Star Trek (new and classic) and there ware several times I was lost in the music. If there had been a CD of that performance,I would have bought it and put it on repeat. With such utter talent; such skill; I was blown away. At the very end of it all, I was so sad that the evening was over. If I could go back in time and listen all over again, I would. It's also good to see such a huge turn out. Never before have I been wowed by the utter outpour and support of the nerd community. What an amazing sight to see so many people. I got the chance to meet and talk with a few people. A few were there for the first time, solely to hear all the music the Colorado Symphony was playing. Thank you to the Colorado Symphony and all the talented members. The strings are forever my favorite, and the violins were breathtaking. The whole performance was utterly breathtaking. I truly hope we get to experience this again.
