Written by John Edward BetancourtIt's funny when you come to realize how many amazing places there are to go and see in your own hometown that you have undoubtedly missed out on for one reason or another. I honestly feel that way every single day when it comes to the incredible art scene out here and thankfully First Friday helps showcase so much of what we are missing. Recently, I had the chance to check out one of those incredible places that I never knew existed when I stepped through the doors of the Lowbrow, a place dedicated to well...everything and anything that has to do with creativity and art in every possible way. This hybrid art gallery/retail store is a unique and special concept in so many ways. For example, if you're in need of supplies to get your idea going, you'll find the supplies here to do it. Or if you're just looking for fun ways to pass the time and be creative while doing so, there's plenty to purchase that will allow you to do that as well. But the best part of traveling to the Lowbrow is the fact that they celebrate emerging artists. Every month you'll find the work of a talented artist on display inside their store. In fact there's a section within these walls that allows you to see their work in traditional fashion, but it doesn't end there. To truly celebrate the work of the artist, to truly understand how unique and powerful their work actually is, the Lowbrow goes above and beyond, allowing for a giant mural to be put up at the front of their store, one that changes when the next artist arrives to showcase their work. In essence, it's a one of a kind piece of artwork that will never come again, making it a priority for any art lover to get down there and see it before it changes. That's the kind of awesome appreciation the Lowbrow offers, and it makes it worth your time to swing by and visit this wonderful mecca for art. You can find directions to the Lowbrow here, make sure you check it out, especially on First Friday. I've really never seen anything quite like it, and my thanks to the owners, Lauren and Tymla, for giving me the chance to check out something so refreshing and exciting.
