Written by John Edward Betancourt There are a great many ways that we the public and the motion picture industry measure success for a motion picture. Obviously, the easiest one is the box office haul, because making millions upon millions, or billions upon billions of dollars, speaks volume to the demand of the movie and how badly people wanted to see it. But that really isn’t the only way to do it. Because some films, don’t get 2500 screens and a massive run in theaters, they’re independent or they’re on a streaming service, so to try and measure their success through that is silly. Which is why one can gauge success of a feature through the reviews it secures. Since those give folks an understanding of the emotional impact a particular film produces from an audience and we can also measure success, via the awards and accolades it receives as it cycles through the festival circuit, and awards season. For that too, helps people understand the prestigious nature of the story and how many appreciated what it had to offer and well, those particular lines of thinking are why it is safe to declare that the independent feature, Re: Uniting, is a grand success in every sense of the word. Because while this movie has not received 2500 screens to display on, it’s quite loved. For the reviews coming in for the film are excellent to say the least, including this writer’s review, since it truly to did move me to tears on several occasions, and well… it is also being recognized in a big way from an awards standpoint. For recently, the LEO Awards released its nominations for its upcoming awards ceremony, and wouldn’t you know it, Re: Uniting received a nomination… or twelve. Yes, you read that right, it received twelve amazing nominations for the following categories: Program Direction Screenwriting Cinematography Picture Editing Sound Production Design Costume Design Casting Supporting Performance (2) Lead Performance Which is just… amazing news to say the least, and it speaks to all the hard work that Laura Adkin and her talented cast and crew put into making such an honest and earnest project. And we here at NTG wish them the best in locking up as many awards at the LEO Awards as possible, to further cement this film’s status as a rousing success. Something that will be bolstered further when the film hits United States theaters later this week. Written by John Edward Betancourt It really is quite the wonderful time to be a Doctor Who fan. After all, we have a new Doctor and a new Companion to join him on his adventures through time and space, and Russell T. Davies, the man responsible for new Who in general is back at the helm. Not to mention, as we stated in our review of the new season, we are headed into a fascinating reset for the show. Wherein the stories and the vibe are outright different and refreshing in nature, so it should come as no surprise… that all the excitement and wonder surrounding the new season… extended to last night’s red-carpet premiere of the show. Because everyone in attendance was excited to see what the Fifteenth Doctor will be getting up to in his first year in the TARDIS and that brought about smiles and joy and a party for the ages and well, since you’re a fan of the show and are eager to share in the wonder of the this premiere, here is a quick recap of the evening that was, alongside a bevy of photos, as we countdown the minutes to the return of the Last of the Time Lords. ‘On May 8, Disney Branded Television hosted the U.S. premiere event for “Doctor Who” at NeueHouse Hollywood in Los Angeles. Attendees were treated to a cosmic joyride with an exclusive screening ahead of the season debut May 10 on Disney+, followed by a timey-wimey after-party immersed in the world of “Doctor Who.” In attendance were series stars Ncuti Gatwa (Fifteenth Doctor) and Millie Gibson (Ruby Sunday), as well as the creative team — Russell T Davies (showrunner, executive producer and writer) and executive producers Jane Tranter, Julie Gardner, Phil Collinson and Joel Collins. Distinguished celebrities and guests included Alex Borstein (“Family Guy,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Kari Byron (“MythBusters”), Dan Povenmire (“Phineas and Ferb”), Rick and Becky Riordan (“Percy Jackson and the Olympians”), Dua Saleh (“Sex Education”) and many more. An introduction to the screening was made by Ayo Davis (president, Disney Branded Television). The Doctor and his companion Ruby Sunday travel across time and space, with adventures all the way from the Regency era in England to war-torn future worlds. Throughout their adventures in the TARDIS — a time-traveling ship shaped like a police box — they encounter incredible friends and dangerous foes, including a terrifying bogeyman and the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet. On Friday, May 10, at 4:00 p.m. PDT / 7:00 p.m. EDT on Disney+ in the U.S. and around the world (excluding the U.K.), audiences can stream “The Church on Ruby Road,” which premiered last December, as well as two all-new episodes. In the U.K., “Doctor Who” begins streaming on May 11 at midnight on BBC iPlayer before airing on BBC One later that day, giving audiences a simultaneous global launch. New episodes drop Fridays on Disney+, where available, and on Saturdays on the BBC and BBC iPlayer in the U.K.’ Written by John Edward Betancourt It really is quite amazing how the red-carpet premiere continues to captivate us after all these years. Because by now, they are commonplace, and we should be used to them and see them as just another part of Hollywood’s inner functions. But we still love them, we love hearing about them and there is reason why. Because they represent so much more than a release date or business as usual. They serve as the apex of a dream, of the glamour and glitz, and the promise of Hollywood, and we adore that and love to be part of it, and that’s why… we are here to share that wonder with you. For yesterday, the talented cast and crew of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire enjoyed the red-carpet premiere of season two of the show and well… to entice your imagination and call to that part of us that dreams… here is a summary of the night, and those photos for all of you to enjoy, courtesy of AMC. ‘Last night, Tuesday, April 30, AMC Networks celebrated season two of the highly anticipated series Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire with a screening event at The McKittrick Hotel in New York City, in partnership with Bustle, ahead of the premiere of the new season on Sunday, May 12 on AMC and AMC+. Following the screening, guests had the opportunity to participate in a special immersive experience, “Théâtre des Vampires,” and enjoyed signature drinks presented by POM Wonderful. Series stars Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Assad Zaman, Delainey Hayles and Eric Bogosian were in attendance, along with creator and executive producer Rolin Jones and executive producer Mark Johnson, plus AMC Networks executives including Kristin Dolan, CEO; Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios.’ |
