Written by John Edward Betancourt While I know that some football fans lament the fact that the league week kicks off on Thursdays now, I for one, welcome it. Because it means that I don’t have to wait as long as I used to in order to get my football fix and having it open up on a Thursday, also means that the week is dominated by my favorite sport. Which in turn allows for me to constantly talk about football and ponder upon what could happen in the forthcoming week with all of my friends and all of you football fans out there, on a more consistent basis. And really, this is just that happy time of year where football is life and it brings me endless joy that we are a few hours away from kickoff yet again. Yet while I’m as giddy as can be today over the fact that Week 4 is about to get underway, I made mention of the fact that there are stories to discuss, which means it is high time I quit daydreaming about the sport, so that we can examine the top storylines hanging over this weekend’s games and preview some of the most fascinating games to watch this weekend. Will the Kansas City Chiefs go 4-0? This is an important question to ask simply because, the Lions have some serious fight in them. Which let’s be honest, their record doesn’t quite reflect that, but seeing some of their games over the past three weeks on Redzone has made it clear that this team is full of scrappy players who don’t quit, and they might give the Chiefs a run for their money. Because Detroit has a lot to prove right now, especially after last year’s ho-hum season, and beating Kansas City would get the football world buzzing about their potential. But dropping the Chiefs is no easy task, especially with Patrick Mahomes at the helm of this team and really, if they can neutralize him, the answer to this question is no. But I get a feeling the answer to this question will instead be a resounding yes, because KC is playing for keeps and I fully expect them to roll over the Lions on their way to 4-0. Will Dwayne Haskins see the field this weekend? Let’s not mince words here, the Washington Redskins are a terrible team through and through. Their defense is soft, and their offense is a joke with Case Keenum at the helm, and while I know the franchise would prefer to see their 1st round quarterback ride the pine and learn everything he can about professional football, it’s only a matter of time before Keenum is benched for poor performance, or he’s forced to leave the game due to injury and one just gets the feeling that this weekend’s game might feature the moment when Haskins gets his chance. Especially when one considers that Keenum is battling an ankle injury. But taking into account the incompetency of Washington’s front office, don’t be surprised if they insert Colt McCoy if there’s a problem with Case. Either way, I just hope the kid gets his due sooner rather than later because he is likely the only hope the franchise has right now to excite its fan base and potentially win some games, so why not give the kid a shot? Will the Denver Broncos finally win a game? I don’t think any football fan out there expected the Denver Broncos to be 0-3 to start off the 2019 campaign, but here we are, and everyone is wondering if Sunday will be the day when this franchise finally nets a win and it is possible. Because Jacksonville isn’t exactly doing all that much better than Denver, but really two key things need to happen in order for Denver to secure that all-important first win of the season. First and foremost, the defense has to bring their A game. That means Bradley Chubb and Von Miller have to get to the quarterback and the secondary has to force some turnovers and the other important key element to this game, is that the offense has to put up some points. And while those things seem like no brainers to say the least, Denver hasn’t done a good job executing either of those elements thus far. So, it’s either get back to basics this weekend for Denver, or the free fall will continue. The Most Fascinating Games to Watch This Weekend New England Patriots (3-0) at Buffalo Bills (3-0) |
