Written by John Edward BetancourtThere are few things in this world as exciting as getting the chance to tell a story. When the opportunity arises to sit down at my desk like I am doing now and let my fingers fly over the keyboard, I am simply in heaven because I love writing, I love the process that comes with it and I love the idea of creating something out of thin air and sharing it with others. It's been a life long dream of mine to write and I've been able to experience some incredible memories thanks to it. I've been able to share in the wonder of what seems like a million fandoms thanks to this site. I've met some incredible people and to top it off, I've been published in an anthology (pictured on the left) thanks to Evil Girlfriend Media and have an award winning screenplay under contract, and it's an honor on every level to say the least. But, there's so much more to accomplish. For I firmly believe that every writer out there has one particular story they need to tell and I happen to think I've found mine. It's a story that captivates me and well...I think having a novel, or in this case a series of novels published is the next step for me. The good news is, the first novel in the series, Fallen Angel, is through its first draft, now I simply need to edit it and get it out to agents. I personally want to go through traditional publishing for this and I'll explain the reason for that later on. You see the whole reason I'm writing this today is because of the fact that writing is a lonely journey. You don't know if something works until someone picks it up and the story is always trapped in one place until it hits the page, your mind. So, I thought it would be beneficial for myself and others out there early on in their writing careers to open a section on this website that celebrates the creative process of writing, writing as a whole and a place that can chronicle the behind the scenes of the journey. I'll keep you up to date as often as possible on the book, which is now in the editing process and eventually on the progress of getting it out to agents and publishers. Now, something I can promise in that part of the process, is keeping the names of agencies and publishers and what they say to me rejection wise, and to a certain degree the positives for legal reasons, out of this blog. Only because that's unprofessional, and would be counter productive to the point of this section of the website. But I also want this section to do more than just chronicle my adventure. We will break down the process here as well, because truth is there is no real manual to writing any story. Each writer has their own special way of putting pen to paper and you can expect to hear from other writers I know in this section as well and I love the idea of having a collection of best practices available here. It is my hope that since I jumped into writing head first many years ago, that we can help others who might be having trouble with where to start, just like I did. Either way, welcome to The Writer's Nook, I look forward to sharing the wonder of writing with all of you.
