Written by ShaeOnce in a while you run into something that you know you have to intervene upon. My mom used to work at an elementary school as a special needs para and then in preschool. One of the families she knew from the job had adopted a dog, but as time went on, she learned more and more about the family. The tiny dog wasn't doing well. The family had children under the age of five, and as a small dog, he was treated as more of a toy than anything else. Finally, the lady surrendered the dog to my mom. His name is Beacon and he is a miniature toy fox terrier. He should be the size of a Jack Russell, weighing about 12 pounds. Due to his early life experience however he is only 5 pounds, slightly taller than a chihuahua, and has lost his front teeth due to malnutrition. Beacon also has a bit of a bum leg. During a "dress up" session the kids broke his hip, and sadly the ball joint didn't heal quite right. Fear not, though! Beacon is doing just fine. This tiny ball of love is thriving with my parents. He's a total cuddle bug, very snuggly, and loves his brothers and sisters. While he's not children friendly, he's very good with us older kids. Beacon's story always speaks to one major life lesson; teach your children the proper way to handle animals. Pets are not toys, they're family members. And while Beacon suffered early on in his life, he got an amazing happy ending. But like him, there are many animals looking for a forever home. Crush is a 12 year old red tabby male! He's neutered and still has his claws, but he's well trained on using scratching posts. He's affectionate, playful, and loves pets! Crush is looking for a kind forever home. He's wary of strangers, but always up for the challenge of meeting new people, he just needs a little time to warm up. Gracie is a 10 year old black and white domestic long hair! This darling girl is a delightful, graceful, little thing. She's up for brushes, pets, and cuddles. Gracie does have some medical issues, so please be sure you're ready for a special needs kitty. That aside, Gracie has lived with dogs and kids, but never other cats. She's a snuggler once she warms up to you, she's spayed and still has her claws. Gracie is also very independent, so she doesn't need 24/7 snuggles and pets, she just needs a loving and caring family. Java and Domino are the dynamic duo of the dog world! These two are looking for their forever home and a family that will accept them both. Friends for life, Java is a female and Domino a male! Both are spayed/neutered, great with other dogs, and kids! These Jack Russell's are both 8 years old and 8 months. They absolutely love to play, have energy, and are young at heart.
