Please enjoy this super-sized sneak peek and synopsis from the new Audible Original, The Safe Man, which premieres on Audible, tomorrow!
The Safe Man, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly, debuts Thursday, May 16 on Audible. The riveting detective story, nail-biting heist thriller and supernatural mystery is performed by a full cast starring Jack Quaid and Titus Welliver. When Brian Holloway (Jack Quaid, The Boys) was hired by famous horror author Paul Robinette (Titus Welliver, Bosch) to crack an antique safe in his home, he had no idea what he was about to encounter. Opening that safe door unleashed something sinister — something that continues to haunt him. But what exactly? And can whatever slipped through that threshold be stopped? Plagued by a series of disturbing supernatural encounters, chilling prophecies, and a criminal investigation into a missing girl, Brian begins to realize that he is inexplicably linked to the eternal, and that he must defy fate if he has any chance of saving the most important person in his life. Set against the eerie tropics of Florida, The Safe Man reimagines Connelly’s 2012 short story as a pulse-pounding audio drama. This Connelly masterpiece delivers his signature flavor of suspense, and is produced with brilliant sound design for an unforgettable experience. Written by John Edward Betancourt It is definitely safe to say that the internet has a bit of a rough reputation right now, and understandably so. For a place that was designed to become the compendium of human knowledge, is now home to a bevy of misinformation. The kind that is even disguised to look as though it is legitimate in nature. Not to mention, there’s a lot of hate being spread on the web, and vitriol as well, since people use its anonymous nature to let loose and say the most horrible things possible, and even the entertainment side of it is starting to deal with some hard negativity. Since there are some negative voices spreading ugly stuff through the digital airwaves via podcast or webcast. But, despite the troubles we continue to encounter and our concerns, the internet continues to be a vital resource for us all. For there are lessons to be found, there are people we can connect with and positive experiences to be found, and there is still entertainment out there that is wholesome and engaging. In fact, there just so happens to be a podcast out there worth discussing that offers just that, in the most unique and refreshing way imaginable. All by offering fresh perspective regarding a classic television show. For Wild Nights on the Prairie with Ray Ellin is a podcast that takes the time to spotlight and break down, episodes of the classic and iconic series, Little House on the Prairie. A show that explored life in the 1800s and that some view as topical in nature. But Ray’s show proves otherwise. Since it explores themes that we may have missed during an initial viewing, and human moments that are relatable and powerful to say the least. All of which brings forth a comprehensive and incredible analysis of this show. Wherein we come to learn it was so much more than a fluffy piece set in the West during days gone by, it’s a show about the human condition and it does still resonate today, as evidenced by the other reason that this show is worthwhile. Because Ray doesn’t do a massive breakdown in a solo manner, he has a guest join him in his analysis, and that leads to some equally as powerful discussions. The kind that are open and honest and explore some of the life experiences that Ray and his guest have endured during their respective journeys and how those experiences relate to the episode. Adding real depth to what Ray is working to accomplish with this show, which is to genuinely showcase how much it reflects the basics of who we are and how important it is to recognize such matters and that makes… for one positive and incredible podcast. One that shines new light on a series that clearly deserves its day in the sun, while exploring so much more. Which makes this, a genuinely delightful podcast and one that you should enjoy, first chance you get. Simply because this is indeed everything the internet needs right now, since it is not some carefully curated show designed to sow division and/or push forth an agenda. It is simply a celebration of a show that means a lot to Ray, and a chance to explore the series in a bold new light. While also informing us of the power of entertainment and how it endures and how it connects with us, alongside some amazing discussions about life, who we are and what we learn, and you really cannot go wrong with a podcast that expresses all of that and serves a true breath of fresh air amid the digital rhetoric. Because so many horror franchises are still going strong and there are new ones coming to life every day. For people finally understand the wonder of this genre and what it can do for an audience and well, horror is so in demand right now, that it is even sneaking its way into the podcasting world. After all, 2023 saw a bevy of horror themed podcasts pop up and 2024 is starting off with a scary bang, courtesy of Realm Media. For today marks the release of a new chapter in their horror anthology channel, Undertow, and well… Narcosis is clearly going to be one wild and frightening story. Simply because this is that wondrous horror story that preys upon our most primal of fears. Which in this case, involves isolation, claustrophobia, and our deep-rooted fears of being trapped underwater with no hope of oxygen, along with another surprise. One that we will let Realm explain. For they were kind enough to provide us with all the details on this chilling new podcast, and with that in mind, here is everything you need to know about the nightmare that is… Narcosis. ‘Realm, industry-leading podcast studio and one of the world's fastest-growing independent podcast networks, today released the first episode for Undertow’s new season Narcosis, created by audio writer/director Fred Greenhalgh (Locke & Key) and screenwriter Chris Bernier (Halloween Ends). The season premieres Friday, January 19th, with episodes releasing weekly. Veronica West never planned to come back to Sinclair. But when her estranged childhood friend goes missing at sea, Veronica returns to the remote island to lead a dangerous recovery dive – only to find herself trapped in a series of underwater tunnels with her oxygen dwindling. But that’s the least of her problems. There’s something unspeakable down there with her. Something the mainlanders don’t want her to find… Undertow is Realm’s premier horror podcast channel, showcasing original works of elevated audio horror. Notable past seasons include the chart-topping Blood Forest starring Jack Falahee (How to Get Away with Murder) and The Sisters starring Mae Whitman (Parenthood). Writer Chris Bernier said, "Collaborating with Fred Greenhalgh and the Realm team -- and getting to write on a scripted podcast -- was a total creative thrill. I'm blown away by what we've accomplished in Narcosis. It's both the latest chapter in the longstanding tradition of American folk horror set in Maine and an extension of the world of weird aquatic horror that New England is known for.” Creator and Realm’s Head of Audio Fred Greenhalgh said: “We know more about deep space than the deep sea and so as a launchpad for horror the setting is perfect. Narcosis dives into a simple question: what lurks below the water, just out of sight, and what might it do to us if given the chance?” Narcosis episodes will release weekly on all podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Stitcher, beginning Friday, January 19. Episodes will also be available early and ad-free for subscribers to Realm+ and Realm Unlimited. Narcosis was created and written by Fred Greenhalgh and Chris Bernier. Written by John Edward Betancourt Stories that are deeply beloved by a loyal fan base, go one of two routes when they come to a close on their own terms. For some… become nothing short of warm nostalgia, wherein fans revisit them now and again to evoke a feeling or a memory of the joyous times when they enjoyed what that story had to offer. While others… become nothing short of legends. For those stories tapped into something special and resonated with audiences on a level so deep… that the story stays with them long after it ends. To the point where they revisit it often to feel that connection and of course, hope and pray for a sequel or something that can at last… keep the wonder of an incredible story going. But alas, that second route is rare to come by. For endings usually are endings, and if by chance there’s a reunion, return or sequel… it either exists to right a wrong or it is necessary to bring any loose threads left hanging to their proper conclusion. But now and again, you run into a reunion, return or sequel, or expansion story that is everything the fans hope for and more. Something that truly gives new life to the source material, and new chapters that captivate us like before, and it just so happens that an expansion story in that vein is available now through Audible. For the Audible Original, Slayers: A Buffyverse Story, just so happens to expand the widely beloved Buffyverse, in an epic manner, in part by reuniting a great deal of the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All so they can go on an incredible brand-new adventure. One that takes place ten years after the events of the series finale of the show, where slayers are everywhere and where Spike is working with Clem undercover in the City of Angels to keep the peace. But when he meets a young slayer named Indira, some wild events take place. The kind that brings forth new horizons for this storied franchise and surprises abound. The kind that we won't be covering in this review. For this is a spoiler-free zone, and keeping the details out, ensures you experience the surprises that await on your own, and it also allows for us to address the burning questions on your mind, dear reader. Specifically, how this expansion of the Buffyverse does the franchise justice and takes care of its fans while offering up a story that truly impresses. All of which it accomplishes, by giving us a story that pays proper tribute to what came before it, while truly giving new life to the saga with the incredible concepts it brings to the table. Courtesy of the fact that Amber Benson penned the script alongside, Chris Golden, and her vast knowledge of the series allowed for her to create the perfect story. One that recaptures the magic of the show and allows for the talented cast that we adore, and in some cases, grew up with, to provide moments that feel authentic, as though we are indeed just catching up with them a decade after the series came to a close. And that, truly does bring forth an experience that doesn’t miss a beat and plunges us right back into a universe we deeply love. Plus, it doesn’t hurt… that the cast truly lets loose in this story. Because each and every one of them, bring their A-game to this Audible Original, and properly recreate their beloved characters to a tee, and with minimal effort it seems. Plus, they deliver their lines with an incredible passion. The kind that further draws you into the story and reminds you at the same time… why everyone loves this franchise so. Because it was unique, it was special and it remains unlike anything else in entertainment today, and all of those elements bring forth… an essential story for anyone who loves the Buffy franchise. Because this is what the fans have been waiting for, more stories from a world that provides joy and wonder and is filled with incredible characters that resonate with us courtesy of their flaws and their humanity, even when they might not be 100% human. But the best news of all, is that you can enjoy this incredible chapter in the Buffyverse right now. For it is available to enjoy on Audible and we certainly hope you check it out. Because it really does offer something for everyone that was impacted by their brief or extended encounter with Buffy Summers… and the amazing people and otherworldly beings she met during her time in Sunnydale. To learn more about the creation of this Audible Original, check out our interviews with cast members, Emma Caulfield Ford (Anya and Anyanka), Laya DeLeon Hayes (Indira Nunnelly), and James Charles Leary (Clement ‘Clem’).

'Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: she would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule. He’s even stripped away the magical powers of those who refused to join his wicked cause. Yeah, everyone hates her. Well, everyone except her two roomies—Sybil, the sassiest diva of a fairy, who could throw shade with the flick of a wing. And Frank, the vampire who rocks a bald spot and a serious paunch. They are the real MVPs, the ride-or-die buddies who have her back, no matter how many colossal fails she racks up. And it’s all about to get even weirder. Along comes Kate, a Normie who somehow knows more about Laurel than Laurel knows about herself. Turns out, she's got some secrets up her sleeve that might just give Laurel a shot at redemption and a chance to rewrite her destiny. Third Eye is a side-splitting adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Laurel and her ragtag team of misfits must embark on a wild journey to take down Tybus. It's a treacherous path, but they'll have to put their differences aside and work together. Get ready to laugh, gasp, and cheer as they stumble their way towards an epic showdown. The full cast includes Felicia Day, Neil Gaiman, Christopher Judge, Carolyn Seymour, Laraine Newman, Wil Wheaton, Danny Pudi, Sean Astin, LilyPichu, London Hughes, Alan Tudyk, Nyima Funk, Hudson Yang, Amir Talai, Sean Giambrone, Jade Hykush, Janet Varney, Lila Sage Bromley, Amy Okuda, Phil LaMarr, Steve Agee, Kate Miccuci, Jeff Lewis, Troy Baker, Harvey Guillen, Weird Al Yankovic, Kristian Nairn, and Jonah Ray Rodrigues.'
