In life we are taught often, to give whatever we are working to accomplish, our absolute all. Because that… is the secret to success and the secret to obtaining our dreams, and there is a lot of merit to those lessons. After all, those that truly do work hard and come prepared to everything they do, tend to be the ones that rise to the top and send others packing, and these are the folks we tend to admire and model ourselves after when we begin the pursuit of our dreams, since their work ethic is downright incredible, as is their dedication. But while this is a lesson that deserves much attention and is one, we can in fact abide by often, there is a caveat to it that we don’t teach all that often. In that, a sound work ethic, and an incredible drive… won’t stop people from experiencing failure. Because failure is part of life and sometimes that failure is related to learning experiences, and other times… it is related to external forces. Because not everyone will want to see us succeed, especially if we aren’t abiding by the terms, they believe we should be following to find success. Which begs the question, what do we do when we encounter this unfortunate form of failure? Well, it just so happens that the next episode of Drops of God on Apple TV+, takes the time to explore the answer to that very question. Simply because, dear Camille ran into this exact problem in ‘Food and Wine’. For she was whisked back away to Paris to conduct the third and final test, armed with some fascinating knowledge. In that, Luca was pissed about her not taking on the guide, because that would impact his financial interests. Since he was buying up tiny vineyards left and right that he was a fan of, so they could be featured positively in the guide. Giving rise to incredible profits for those vineyards, the kind he would pocket away. And well, since Camille rebuffed his wishes to take over the guide and make him rich beyond his wildest dreams… he made life difficult for her during the test. For he made sure that everyone knew that the winner would take over the guide, and he skewed the first phase of a three-phase test toward Issei, to make him look him look like a true wine genius with his academic knowledge of wines. Not to mention when Camille did begin to take control of the test and wow the judges with wines that impressed in the second phase of the competition, which involved pairing wine with the right food, Luca was there to sow doubt and offer garbage commentary. Which left Camille in a tough place because she was set up to lose, despite having great knowledge of wines and being a worthy competitor in this competition. So, when she arrived back the very vineyard where her wild journey began to complete the final test, which was to re-create a wine… she finally learned how to handle this best. In that, one simply must give it their all. Because the decisions of a jealous or incompetent idiot that wants to flex up on a person trying to rightfully succeed… doesn’t mean a person will truly fail. They merely failed in recognizing a situation and understanding what that person is all about. So, all one can do in that situation and scenario… is their best. Be the consummate pro they aspire to be and continue to be driven and hungry. For there is no greater revenge than showing a person like Luca… that spirit and desire will not and cannot be broken in that moment, and that reminds the person in question, how badly they want this and that they should continue their journey once the dust settles from one unfortunate end. All of which made, for a surprisingly inspirational episode. One that really did teach us how to handle this kind of adversity and well, it will be interesting to see how Camille bounces back from this forthcoming failure. For the odds are indeed against her, since the test is now rigged, but she is ready to become something more, and grab hold of what she wants and seeing that come together… will make for a satisfying ending indeed. Until next time.
