‘Jungle’ Recap: ‘No Matter the Cost’

We like to believe that in our modern world, that a human being hunting another human being for nefarious reasons is something that is beyond our capacity. After all, this is the 21st Century, where that kind of behavior shouldn’t exist in the slightest. Especially with technology’s power surrounding us since the police would and should be easily able to close in upon and stop anyone making that kind of attempt. But we often forget that we look at the world through rose-colored glasses and forget there are segments of our world where the everyday rules don’t apply, and where something as heinous as an illegal manhunt can and does happen… as evidenced by the events of the next episode of Jungle on Prime Video.

For when we caught up with Gogo in ‘No Matter the Cost’, he came face to face with 6ix when attempting to sell the watch to Mia, and in that moment… it became clear how such a hunt could come to fruition. For despite having the cops near him and 6ix during their discussions about what happened to 6ix’s brother… it was made clear that Gogo was going to be watched and tracked and hunted regardless of the potential for jail time for the hunters. Because in this underworld and undoubtedly others… there’s no concern for the law, just a desire to have justice come to life at any cost, and not justice in the traditional sense since that can be so slow… we’re talking about street justice here. That final justice if you will.

A reality that pushed Gogo to really up his timetable to get the hell out of dodge and that brought him back into Slim’s stead to try and get his money at last. An act that went nowhere of course, since Slim is Slim and expects everyone and everything to abide by his terms. Which in turn, pushed Gogo to get in with some new criminals locally, who could help him pull off some the bigger heists that he and Slim were waiting to take part in. All so that he could get the goods from those places and collect that cash so he and his love at last could escape and well… while that plan worked and helped him and his new cohorts get their hands on an incredible gold dust bounty, the hunt was on in the streets and that led to some unsettling moments for certain.

Because Slim’s right-hand man, promised his boss that he would do whatever was necessary to bring Gogo to him. And of course, get that fascinating watch back in Slim’s hands. Which allowed for us to see how a modern manhunt can indeed take place from a technology standpoint. Since there were phone calls galore to the various gang members of the city, including 6ix, just to get the word out that Gogo was on Slim’s radar and of course… the interconnected nature of the world via technology, allowed for information to be shared with ease. Since he was able to discover Gogo’s home address through various conversations, including one with his new cohorts.

Which of course, put Gogo in serious danger, to the point where he’s ready to go on the run with Jessica and find a safer place to live for a beat, since he’s aware that others have found where he hangs his hat. But while we wait to see what comes of that, we can bask in the wonder of another fascinating chapter in this story. One that pointed out how our sophistication as a society, combined with the darkness that still thrives, has enhanced dark acts we thought were gone forever and well, it will be fascinating to see how technology and guile work together to bring forth more lessons and pain for Gogo as this incredible series continues along.
