When sudden change comes into our lives, the kind that is intentional or unintentional, we like to think that we can bounce back from the surprise of it quickly and go on with minimal concern. Because there comes a point where we understand that change is the constant of the universe, and that sometimes we need to roll with the punches, so we can quickly stand tall when the dust settles, only to learn… bouncing back and moving forward from it… isn’t as easy as we’d like. For we often forget that emotions and consequences come forth from change and that makes the next steps difficult, to the point where now and again… we need support and perspective and strength, and a measure of control, in order to find our way forward, as evidenced by the next episode of Run the World on STARZ. For when we caught up with everyone in ‘Honeymoon’s Over’, it was obvious that the ladies were struggling with the changes that came into their life. Sondi for instance, while being welcoming and understanding of Naomi’s return to the fold and her rightful place as Amari’s mother… struggled with the fact that she was now in essence, hamstrung in the relationship. For she was going to be an outsider now, one that had to deal with the drive and desires of a mother and that also meant… she was going to be in the middle of everything. Something that would rob her of independence and agency and well, that was why she opted to take a prestigious TA job over the summer. To claim that and to teach us, that when change robs of us a sense of control and direction, we need something to hold onto, something healthy in that manner… to give us a little bit of peace while we figure out the bigger stuff. As for Renee, well she came to learn that while her intentions were noble and brilliant in stepping away to start her own firm and make her own name in the marketing world, it wasn’t going to come easy. Which wasn’t an easy lesson to learn. Because was used to being at the top of her game, and landing accounts left and right and having to fire her new partner and being told no from Abby, her friend at L’Oréal, forced her to learn that lesson and more. Specifically, that she was indeed starting over from scratch and needed to use her skill set and hunger to build her client base and wow them along the way to build her new marketing empire. But more importantly, her journey here reminds us that sometimes… when change arrives and we struggle with it, we need to take a moment and look what’s different in our lives objectively, so we can see a path forward and traverse it to get where we wanted to be when we made that big change. But with a trio of dynamic characters present in this tale, that means we received three unique lessons regarding how to handle the big changes in our lives, with the last one coming from Whitney. For while she was indeed trying to get back on track and move forward from the mistake she made and the change it brought to her life… she was stumbling and struggling. To the point where she was doing the silly stuff, we all do when we hurt, and she was also neglecting her work and not feeling herself. As though what transpired, transformed her into a lesser version of herself. But thankfully, Hope stepped up and stepped in here, and gave her objective advice and help. The kind that informed her that yes, she screwed up, and yes… her life was in a new place because of it… but also that… that didn’t have to define her. She still had a great job, a life to live and if she found a little confidence, a little win… she could build on that and start moving forward. Which she did, and that did indeed inform us that sometimes… we need that nudge and outside perspective to understand what’s happened to us so we can regroup and get back on track. All of which made… for another incredible episode. One that managed to pack in that many incredible lessons in a half hours’ time. Which is a testament to the writing of this show, since that is no small feat, but this show makes such feats look effortless and truly… we were treated to a thoughtful and powerful tale thanks to what was presented here. One that still found a way to keep things light with perfectly timed jokes. But what matters most about this tale, is that we saw these women meet their challenges head on and never once let those challenges crush their spirits. Sure, there were stumbles along the way, but that’s life, and we’re not perfect and we do feel and falter when we struggle. But how they handled everything here was just inspiring and that’s what this show is, inspirational, and honest. And that’s what television needs more of, and thankfully, we still have plenty of more season two of this show to enjoy. Which means six more wondrous weeks of lessons about life await us, and it will be interesting to see what challenges await this trio and how they conquer and handle them in a realistic manner as they continue to work to run the world. Until next time.

Written by John Edward Betancourt It is definitely safe to say, that season one of Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur on the Disney Channel was nothing short of a breath of fresh air. For not only was the storytelling top notch week in and week out, this progressive and brilliantly bold series did so much from a representation standpoint, and it had so much to say about what can make our world a better place in a manner that was relatable and powerful to say the least. And fans were so enamored with the show that the Disney Channel made sure to promptly renew the series for a second season. One that is clearly going to be far more epic in nature, as evidenced by today’s announcement. For earlier, Disney let it be known that another highly decorated actor will be joining the cast for season two. For Academy Award-nominee Edward James Olmos has signed on to play Molecule Man, who will serve as one of the main villains of season two and well, this is just amazing. For Edward is a screen legend, and it will be incredible to hear him voice the heavy and wow us with his acting, and if we’re lucky, maybe Edward and Laurence Fishburne will share screen time in some form or fashion. But while we wait to see if that will happen and wait to discover what kind of unique and inventive evil Molecule Man will bring to Moon Girl’s neighborhood, here are some fast facts about Molecule Man and the show in general, alongside our first look at Molecular Man in the series, to tide you over until season two, courtesy of the Disney Channel. Edward James Olmos stars as Molecule Man in season two of "Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur."

Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season Finale of ‘Drops of God’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It wasn’t that long ago, that we discussed in detail, a fascinating conflict that families sometimes deal with in the world, courtesy of the Apple TV+ series, Drops of God. For ‘Legacy’ explored the age old conflict of how sometimes, children don’t want to follow in their parent’s footsteps, for reasons that are of course their own or are motivated by their parents and some of the toxic behaviors that parents exhibit, and those reasons were precisely what the episode focused upon, and that offered up fascinating perspective on the matter, the kind that felt… slightly unfulfilled when all was said and done. Because it seemed as though the episode was building toward something more regarding this, and instead made a hard left turn into the surprises that awaited Camille and Issei during the ending of that tale. But as it turns out, that sense of incompletion was done by design, for the season finale of this saga, was the perfect time to bring closure to that concept. For in reality, what that exploration was designed to do, was eventually pose the question… what then do children do when that prior path is forced upon them? Because sometimes… that is their destiny, in legal writing no less, and all they can do is hang on and wrestle with the reality that their dreams would be denied in the name of what a parent wants for them and that is… precisely where this episode went when all is said and done. Because shortly after Issei and Camille designed the wine in question in ‘All or Nothing’, they were sent back to Tokyo for the results of the final leg of the test. But not before learning of their relationship as brother and sister, which changed their outlook on the contest. Because it gave them perspective regarding their father and the importance of no longer hating one another in a competition that was clearly designed to divide them, and once they found peace, they were treated to a stunning set of surprises. In that, they tied from a score perspective and that meant a sudden death round was in front of them. One that tasked them with finding what Alexandre considered to be the true ‘Drops of God’ when it came to wine and that… brought forth the sequel exploration in question. For Camille came to realize that what her father was referring to in the sudden death test, wasn’t a specific wine, it was… a memory only she would have. One where she and her father observed a powerful storm and where he informed her that rain, was actual drops from God, that sustained wine and life and everything in between. Which allowed for Camille to win the test and that informed her and Issei, that the test was rigged. That all along Alexandre was eager to have his daughter take the reins while Issei was just the pawn to push her and that… put both of them at a crossroads. Wherein they had to decide how to handle the lie and the manipulation of their deceased father to find peace. Such as suing to split the inheritance. Since Alexandre wanted it to remain under the thumb of his daughter. But instead, they decided that different paths than anything that Alexandre wanted was the best way to go. Which prompted Issei to not fight and go back to his life, the opposite of what his biological father would have expected and Camille… decided the collection was better served auctioned off, which wasn’t in the rules. So that others could enjoy the wine and value it more than having it sit in a cellar and she of course… figured out how to end around Luca and take back the guide and make it something better. By having Lorzeno step in and take over its words and purpose. All of which, brought forth a satisfying ending, one that also saw Issei receive something for his time and suffering. Since Camille found another loophole in the rules to provide him with half of the wines from the collection to do with as he pleased. All because Camille and Issei came to realize… that there is no such thing as complete and total control. Nor can a parent truly demand that their child follow in their footsteps completely. For we are individuals, with needs and wants that we do need to have fulfilled and if by chance a destiny is thrust upon us, we can alter it and transform it to fit what we need and so we can live the life we want, and it was wonderful to see that play out here, and learn that lesson, and watch these characters grow before our eyes. Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Six of ‘Silo’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
If there is one particularly wonderful lesson that we can take away from the dystopian nightmare that is Silo on Apple TV+, it would have to be… that the human spirit cannot and will not ever be diminished. Which is indeed uplifting since it means that even in our darkest hour, such as say, being buried beneath the Earth under the rule of an oppressive regime that has removed the majesty of humanity… it will still exist, and it will still persist, and we’ve seen that play out over the past few weeks on the show. Since there are people in this world, eager to learn and eager to be curious and of course, there are some who will do whatever it takes to bring the truth and justice to light. If anything, that latter aspect of the human spirit/condition is top of mind today since it once again was put on display in this next episode of this series. For ‘The Relic’ saw Sheriff Juliette Nichols, push to finally uncover the truth about George’s death and potentially uncover why those in charge of the Silo were so eager to keep the truth about humanity’s past and the relics a secret and well… her plan to plant a relic in Trumbull’s apartment, paid off in spades. Because it allowed for her to get face time with Judge Meadows and point out that this was a serious ‘offense’ that warranted an investigation regarding the origin of this relic to ensure that no chaos or curiosity would come to the Silo. A move that used the edict of the Pact against those who yielded it and her wish was granted. For both Meadows and Sims saw this investigation as the right play, and perfectly timed as well, since Forgiveness Day was upon the Silo and well… minus a few roadblocks, this plan went well. The roadblocks of course, are of note since they challenged Juliette’s spirit. Since few were cooperative on offering up information as to the origins of the relic and how they were being so easily uncovered. In fact, the investigation was mired in so much resistance that for a time, Juliette began to think that this wasn’t worth her while. Especially when a big roadblock came up, one that we will get to in just a moment. Because what mattered more about her journey and the commentary present within it, was that it truly showcased how strong that spirit is and how it cannot be quelled when the cause is just and true, and well… for her dedication to it, Juliette was rewarded with quite the stunning surprise. In that, George’s old girlfriend, Regina, provided her… with the truth about the world.
Such as how what was once above was green and lush and vibrant and that the truth about how the world once was, had been deeply hidden by those in charge of this place, to keep curiosity about the world above away and to maintain that control and well… that discovery brought forth an interesting parallel regarding the human spirit. In that, it is equally as important to highlight the fact that in a situation such as this, the darker side of that spirit… would be as strong as the light side. That means that evil would have no problem imparting its will upon those working hard to break evil’s hold, and that was indeed the case here. Courtesy of Judicial and an unseen force. Since Sims… made a point to dive deep into the relic’s origin and tie it to George.
All so, he could confront Juliette, with Bernard present no less, in a manner that informed everyone he was onto her scheme to bring justice forth by using Trumbull as a patsy. Which made for a scary sequence that could have upended and ended Juliette and all that she was working toward. All because evil was just as determined to have its way and impose its will upon good. But oddly, the holes and possibilities of Juliette’s plan, motivated Bernard to quell their conflict. Simply because he knew a back and forth between good and evil, would sow discontent and end harmony in the Silo. Giving Juliette an important win that won’t last sadly. For we also came to learn that evil’s spirit, works deeply with guile, in order to maintain its grip on what it wants and that is going to create problems down the line for Juliette, now that we know… someone powerful is watching, and that someone… knows that Juliette has discovered the truth about the world. Which made… for a stunning end to an amazing story. One that really did explore the sheer raw power of the human spirit, both good and bad, and its persistence regardless of circumstances, and that in turn… brought forth an engaging tale. That challenged Juliette like never before and allowed for her to become more than just a broken lover wanting justice, but a real champion of truth and justice, a Sheriff as honest and as honorable as Holston if you will and well… she now has her work cut out for her in keeping the people safe and in helping them learn the truth. For clearly, Sims is gunning for her, and someone powerful knows what she knows and that should lead to a powerhouse race to the season one finale, one where hopefully truth wins the day, and the darkness of the Silo can be lifted. Until next time. Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season Three Finale of ‘Ted Lasso’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
In August of 2020, we were all in quite the difficult place. For the pandemic was raging and we were all home, and pondering upon mortality and what was to come next because of this unprecedented event, and we all turned to television and any available form of entertainment… to find comfort and distraction and one particular show that popped up on Apple TV+, did just that, but also surprised us and took the world by storm. It was called Ted Lasso, and it caught our eye because it was just so unconventional. For this comedy wasn’t sassy or edgy, it was just a flawless story that was taking us to places that comedies rarely go. Plus, it lifted our spirts up in a time of need and we of course, wanted more and stuck around for what ended up being quite the incredible journey. For as the show continued along, it became bolder in what it offered its audience, even going so far as to explore the importance of mental health care and the nature of trauma and generational abuse, alongside exploring how success in life doesn’t fix our problems. Not to mention, the importance of self-care and self-work also became a focus of this show, which are elements that took all of us by surprise over the past three seasons. Because that’s stuff, we don’t see on television and it also left us wondering, what this story was working toward. Well after three wondrous seasons, that question was answered at last in ‘So Long, Farewell’ and in part… this saga was working toward a genuinely happy ending that wrapped up three years of magical storytelling and it handled that in a beautiful and magnificent manner. One that truly did inform us what this journey was all about. But before we dive into that, let’s talk about that happy ending. For this is the story that saw Ted Lasso bid farewell to AFC Richmond to spend time with his family and raise his son in the manner his father did not, and his decision to put that first, and the lessons he taught those around him… brought forth a beautiful closing chapter to that journey. Since AFC Richmond went out this season a winner, one that brought down Rupert’s fiefdom in an epic manner and once the season was done, better days were ahead for so many. Since Rebecca found love and became the beloved owner, she was never certain she would be. And Roy Kent became her new coach, and Keeley found her groove as a PR Maestro and good days didn’t end there. Since Jamie made peace with his father, Trent’s book was a hit, and Coach Willis Beard, finally married his one and only, Nate found peace and redemption, and Sam enjoyed the honor he always wanted and Ted… well he found his way home and he found his peace.
All of which… allowed for us to finally understand… that this wasn’t just a fish out of water story, or an experimental comedy designed to just wow the world and shake things up on the television landscape. It was a show… about life. And how important it is to recognize how fucking hard it can be at times, to speak in the key of Roy, and how it beats us down and puts us in a tough place more often than we care for. And how that pain can shape us and guide us to be people we don’t want to be and push us to act out in ways that aren’t the norm or prompt us to hide from the struggles of life in the name of just surviving, somehow. And we recognize that, to look at life objectively and understand its impact upon us so that we can do what we absolutely need to do to properly cope with its savagery. Which is… to heal and grow and become a better person.
Because that is what matters most. The push forward, the fight to overcome our pain and to find the best parts of ourselves and strengthen those. So that we can find a way to heal and discover the internal peace we’ve been sought for ages on end and oddly… become an inspiration for others. For we’re not the only one struggling to find that peace, it’s a common problem, and it is why we seek out those who are positive and strong and exhibit the joy we want in our hearts. Because perhaps they can teach us how to change and how to become more and that is what Ted served as in this story, the beacon of sorts that ignites inspiration, that showed everyone that healing is possible, that change is possible and that it will help us to find what we are looking for in this life and that when we embrace it… is when… we in. Because then we harbor a skillset and a mindset that will allow for us to handle any difficulty and help us to find our way back when we stray, and we will. For we are works in progress, and we will continue to make mistakes. But being dedicated to being the best version of us that we can be… will always put us back on the right track and well, that made for one powerful finale. One that truly left us in tears and truly left us feeling whole. For we learned a lot about life from this show and went through a bevy of emotions. Courtesy of the wonderful characters that populate this universe, who in essence, represented the best parts of all of us, and represented our lives and our world and since it would seem that this finale is more of a series finale than a season finale, all we can do now… is offer thanks to everyone involved with this show. For assembling a story that will be fawned over and celebrated for generations, really, because of the lessons it harbors and because of what it asked the audience to do… which was… to believe. Believe in a better tomorrow, believe that we can change and can make a difference and above all… believe in ourselves. Please enjoy this sneak peak of Episode 202 of ‘Run the World’. Which arrives tomorrow, 6/2/23 on STARZ! Please enjoy this sneak peek of Episode 6 of Silo, which debuts on Apple TV+ tomorrow, (6/2/23). |
