The mystery of what happened to Beth has been hanging over The Walking Dead for some time now. Many of us, the staff here included, thought that Beth was being served up as a main course at Terminus, but it turns that was not the case. No instead we found out she is in a hospital in Atlanta, surrounded by crazy so let's get down to our recap of "Slabtown".
The Good: Major kudos for Emily Kinney acting wise first and foremost. Beth has played immature second fiddle for so long you really weren't sure we would ever get more out of the character until last night. Last night Beth finally grew up. She was calculated, precise and quite frankly a little bad ass most of the night and it was awesome. To see her holding her own was absolutely satisfying, considering how crazy the people at this hospital truly are. Between Dawn and Gorman, there were few moments that you felt as though Beth was safe and with good reason. It's every man for himself in this hospital and the sooner we get Beth out of there the better. I will admit though, I was glad to see the creepy Gorman get his throat torn out, especially after the lollipop incident, I only hope Dawn gets her just desserts as well. But truly this hospital was full of haunting elements and had an amazing Day of the Dead vibe to it and this was an episode that left on you edge thanks to the ugly feel of this "sanctuary" I particularly loved the backstory on Atlanta being bombed and finding survivors with napalm burns. There's something incredibly terrifying about the fact the military commenced bombing with civilians still in the city. But of course the big shocker of the night was Carol being wheeled in on a stretcher, this just got real interesting.
The Bad: I think I would have liked a little more backstory on Dawn and her camp at the hospital. There's a lot of gaps in why they truly are who they are, and perhaps showing why these people are so twisted and broken may have upped the stakes for Beth getting out of there.
The Verdict: Obviously this episode setting up a lot more for the season, and it was fascinating to say the least. I really did want to know more about this new group and for Dawn's sake, she better hope Rick never finds out what she did to Beth...
