THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...
The horrible realization that next week is the midseason finale of The Walking Dead was only made worse by the fact that we learned that this show loves to manipulate our feels and scramble our brains because this week's continuation of Governor-centricity was full of twists and turns and the truth after we thought maybe...just maybe Philip Blake had changed. So let's waste no time getting down to the nitty gritty of last night's..."Dead Weight".
The Good: I freaking knew he was evil through and through! Last week left me so confused since I wanted so badly to think that the Governor was finally shedding his evil ways and turning into a normal human being but my skepticism was warranted the instant he sunk the nine iron into Martinez's skull. This was an episode full of another fine performance from David Morrissey as we watched Brian/Philip/Governor unravel steadily throughout the episode. All his talk of not wanting to be a leader was nothing more than lip service when the opportunity arrived to take over this little camp and his brand of evil was in fine form when he put down Mitch's brother. Have to say it was a masterful stroke by making his actions now seem to be all in the effort of protecting his surrogate family but we all know this is one power hungry dude. It's awesome though to watch him start to rebuild a little empire again. Heck he even has his little zombie menagerie back and upgraded from fishbowls to a lake.
The Bad: The last few seconds when we set his weapon's sights on Michonne. Only because we're stuck with another cliffhanger and because it meant the mid season finale is now truly upon us.
The Verdict: Another solid episode for me. This was a great look into the mind of an evil man and what he will do to get what he wants. Philip Blake is one sick sonofagun and I cannot wait to see how next week unfolds.
