THIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...
Well my wayward children, if this wasn't a throwback episode to the earlier seasons, I don't know what is. Hitting the road, salt and burns, vengeful spirits and murder. If I didn't know any better, this was season 1. Just kidding, there's been too much heart break for season 1. And we're not looking for dad.
All in all Dean has resigned himself to living with the Mark. He's not told Sammy this just yet, but it's apparent. Cas is out looking for Cain himself, and Sam is trying to be overly positive. Sadly, it doesn't work. A case catches Dean's eye and they head off. A weird incident with a car has left one college teen dead. The witness tries to explain what happened and Sam and Dean both believe it was the kids vengeful brothers spirit attached to a truck. A salt and burn should prove that finished, only it doesn't. A girl is strangled in her room by her computer cord. The message 810 appears on the screen before she dies. With no leads, the boys are unsure of what's going on. Dean, however, can't stop staring at the college girls and he even tells Sam he's sorry for ever making him leave. It's not much comfort, but hey! While they're trying to figure out what ghost did this and how and why, a third boy is killed. His stereo blares so loud it boils his brains. Three college kids dead and no idea how the ghost is doing it...finally, a girl comes clean.
The four had been driving, all on their phones, when they nearly hit a car. The car swerved and hit a power line. The cable crashed into the car and caught it on fire moments after the crash, killing the professor inside. This happened not too far from his home, 810, making it massively significant. The two boys and blonde girl decided to speed off and not say a word or call for help. Our last surviving redhead has felt beyond guilty this whole time.
Sam goes to the ghost's window while Dean protects the girl.....the ghost wasn't hot with just a power line, it was a wifi tower. The ghost jumped from place to place using the wifi as a tether to the living world. Vengeance fueling his actions. The wife confesses to Sam that she knew he'd become a ghost. Having appeared to her on their computer and had several conversations with her. All while the angry spirit attacks Dean and/or the girl. Thanks to Face Timing phones, the wife is able to convince her dead husband to move on....and he does, the girl later visits the wife and finds her own peace.
In the end, Dean confesses he's stopped looking for a cure because he can't handle the false hope anymore. He's going to keep saving people and taking cases, for as long as he can, until he goes out swinging.
We'll see how long that lasts since Cain appears next week!
